Johnny Wakelin & the Kinshasa Band

Black Superman reached No. 7 in the UK's Official Chart in 1974. It was a reworking of Hungarian Superman (1972 – a tribute to Joe Bugner), which failed to chart.

Johnny Wakelin was born in Brighton. He was "discovered" by Pye record producer Robin Blanchflower – the man who launched Carl Douglas to the top of the UK Singles Chart in 1974 with Kung Fu Fighting.
